Sedation Dentistry for Painless Dental Visits

We have helped many patients overcome their dental fears and even enjoy dentistry with conscious sedation. Sedation dentistry will allow you to achieve a relaxed and calm state during any dental treatment.

At Troutdale Dental, we combine the use of local anesthesia and conscious dental sedation. Local anesthesia numbs the affected area and ensures a physically painless procedure. Conscious sedation can soothe your anxiety and create a mentally relaxing procedure.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a sweet-smelling and colorless gas that is also called “laughing gas.” Nitrous oxide is a safe and conservative form of dental sedation, and it has been used for years to increase patient comfort.

When you come in for your appointment, we will place a breathing mask over your nose. The mask will administer 50-70% oxygen and 30-50% nitrous gas. This gas is non-irritating and harmless for the patient.

The nitrous oxide patient will remain awake throughout the procedure, but will feel completely relaxed. They will recover quickly, but may not totally recall the actual duration or details of their procedure.

Oral Conscious

Our doctors have provided oral conscious sedation to many patients with dental anxiety over the years. Oral sedation is provided in the form of a pill, and it allows the patient to remain alert yet calm.

You will take your sedation medication shortly before your appointment time. The medication will allow you to feel calm before, during, and after your procedure. You will be able to respond to your dentist’s questions and commands, but the procedure will feel brief and stress-free.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

If you are suffering from dental phobia, you may be avoiding a lengthy or complex procedure. You may even be avoiding your twice yearly dental visits.

Sedation dentistry can improve both your physical health and your emotional wellbeing. Your relationship with dentistry will become more positive and less fearful. Patients who need several general or cosmetic procedures may be able to complete them in just one visit to our office, thanks to dental sedation.

Dental sedation is a great option for patients with powerful gag reflexes, dental anxiety, or disabilities of any kind. Call today to schedule your consultation with one of our sedation dentists. We will find a solution that works for you.
